Additionally, in conjunction with the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High School's Youth Connection work and the Board of Education's desire to recognize students at board meetings that demonstrate exceptional academic and behavior a Dragon Coin was designed by the administration to be given to students each month.

The following students have been selected for October Students of the Month.

Junior High School : Sarah Schlachter

Sarah was nominated by Mrs. Hines. Sarah consistently displays the characteristics of RISE that we look for every day she is at school. She is kind to her peers and teachers, works hard during classes, is responsible and takes care of business when she is absent, and is an overall great human. Sarah is always willing to go above and beyond whenever she is asked to do an assignment or a favor for a teacher or friend. She is always friendly, and I love having her in class. She is a great role model for her peers and always does the right thing, even when no one is watching.

High School : Marcus Laws

Student Portrait

Marcus was nominated by multiple classmates. Marcus always participates in class and helps anyone that needs it. He always takes his internship seriously as well. Also, he is doing well in his college classes.

Marcus has demonstrated outstanding R.I.S.E. behavior throughout the month of October. In every class, he participates with calmness and respect, never speaking over other students but always contributing something worthwhile to the discussion. He maintains good grades while still maintaining a good school/ work/ life balance. It is because of this -and his excellent work ethic while interning for the entire science department- that I believe that he should be the student of the month.

Marcus is a good candidate because he always understands the work put in front of him and tackles it with utmost diligence. He is also never afraid to offer a helping hand to his classmates and peers at any moment. Marcus always tries hard at whatever he does and does an outstanding job of not only understanding the work, but being able to help others if they face a challenge with said work. Because of these reasons and many more, I believe Marcus Laws deserves to be student of the month.
