Holyoke Chamber of Commerce in recognizing students who go above and beyond in their efforts to RISE to Excellence.
The following students have been selected for February Students of the Month.
Junior High: Katie Cure
Katie was nominated by a classmate.
Katie is a very good and respectful student. She works hard in all her classes and deserves this nomination. She gets all her work done on time and she even does extracurriculars. Because of all her kindness towards others, people want to be around her. This is why Katie Cure should be student of the month.
Senior High School: Brandon Bustillos
Brandon was nominated by Ms. Kreider.
Brandon has shown tremendous leadership this year as an upperclassman. His responsibility in everything he does is truly awesome! He goes above and beyond to excel in his classes, treating everyone with respect and being a leader to our younger generation with his FBLA project. He has shown major commitment to his after school project, is always prepared and is very responsible with the elementary students. I'm proud of Brandon and all he does for our school and himself."- Ms. Kreider
After a long day, many high school students want to stop by a convenience store for their favorite snack and go home and veg on their video games or chat with that special someone. Not Brandon! Brandon was one of three special students that came together to do an afterschool program every Monday and Tuesday. These days are especially difficult as many students forget on Mondays and come fully loaded with all of their energy from the weekend. Brandon could be seen visiting the students, calming their nerves, asking how their day went and single-handedly, sometimes walking kids from the elementary to the high school. Not only was this a large number of kids, but they crossed several age spans. As one of his former kindergarten teachers, I always enjoyed watching him take learning to that next step. He always wanted to know more and yet never forgot those that surrounded him. You could rely on Brandon as a teacher and the others could rely on him as a friend." Sent by Cyndi Bahler.
Brandon Bustillos has shown incredible dedication to his academics, striving for his dream school and scholarships. His outstanding presentation on a school recycling program was the best I’ve seen, exceeding all expectations. He put in extensive research, delivered with confidence, and inspired his peers. Brandon’s commitment to excellence and willingness to go above and beyond set him apart. His passion, leadership, and hard work make him truly deserving of this recognition.
Additionally, in conjunction with the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High School's Youth Connection work and the Board of Education's desire to recognize students at board meetings that demonstrate exceptional academics and behavior a Dragon Coin was designed by the administration to be given to students each month at a school board meeting.
