Students at Career Fair
Seventh graders recently had an opportunity to talk one-on-one with professionals in their chosen fields of interest. Based on Mrs. Nelson’s Junior Achievement students’ research into their career likes and interests, managers and business owners were asked to come in and answer questions about their careers. The feedback received from both students and business people was very positive. As told by Matthew Murray, “I feel more prepared to make my career decision because I now know what to expect in the career.” The results of this project will help further the efforts in making decisions about the future curriculum created through the Homegrown Talent Initiative grant.

Students helping Senors
Mrs. Nelson’s 7th Grade Junior Achievement class recently had an opportunity to start preparing for work someday. Students completed job applications, resumes, and cover letters, and then did mock interviews with prospective employers. Employers helping with the project by grading the students’ materials and interviewing the students included Dave Hensley, manager of Ballyneal; Jody Fiscus, owner of The Oak Tree; Jill Fiedler, manager of The Marketplace; and Megan Sprague, Human Relations Manager at Melissa Memorial Hospital. The students interviewed one-on-one with the employers, with the top entry from each group going into the final round with a panel of all four interviewers. The top four entrants consisted of Carlos Moreno, Ben Kleve, Matthew Murray, and Tyler Bergstrom. And the student that “got the job” was Ben Kleve.
